Card image above: The Tree (Hanged Man) from the Gaian Tarot

During this workshop we will use tarot to explore personal journaling then bring our writing to life through guided movement facilitated by the voice of the Hanged Man, the archetype of surrender.

Write it down, let it go, see it with new eyes, and surrender to a new story forming in your body.

The tarot presents us with 78 unique energies (cards) that we can draw from to safely explore memories, thoughts, beliefs, desires and visions.

The symbolism in tarot is rich and deep. The cast of characters and energies is infinite, each card inviting us to explore new layers of feelings, thoughts and sensations.

Journaling, inspired by a tarot card, can bring catharsis, clarity, new perspective, and healing.

In my experience, the tarot voices I’ve explored, through journaling, have helped me shift old stubborn stories that have shaped by life.

By adding movement, we let our bodies and psyches know that we are committed to actively shaping a new life story.

Join me for this tarot-inspired journaling and movement practice!

Letting go asks that we open our hands and release ourselves from the clutch of control. Surrender asks that we pause, center ourselves and look at what’s in front of us with new eyes. The Hanged Man asks us to maintain inner harmony, even when our outer world threatens to disrupt our peace.

What you will experience at this mini-retreat:

  • Play with and learn from the tarot.
  • A somatic exploration of surrender.
  • Support and safety in community.

The Dance of the Dark Goddess: A Somatic Exploration of our Shadow

Dark Goddess Series Flyer Header Only (1)A special three-part ArcanaDance series:

  • Session 1: An introduction to the Dark Goddess and dancing with shadow energies (90 minutes)
  • Session 2: Dancing with our unique shadow (90 minutes)
  • Session 3: Dancing our shadow into the light and healing ritual (120 minutes)

Dancing with our shadow can be both transformative and healing. Carl Jung said that the stories and symbols mapped out in the tarot are the “descendants of the archetypes of transformation.” He also believed that the shadow is one of the most powerful archetypal forces. The shadow is often described as our “inner demons” and can be felt as the part of us that is so overwhelming in its darkness and heaviness that we don’t know how to deal with it. The tarot offers a safe and supportive map to work with our shadow.

During this three-part series, we will use the tarot to dance with our shadow and usher it into light, using the Dark Goddess Tarot deck, by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince.

The Dark Goddess Tarot is a beautiful and powerful deck follows the traditional structure of a tarot deck, and its archetypal journey, but replaces the images with those of powerful goddess and female figures from around that world. Ellen says that the “Dark Goddess Tarot is inspired by and intended for troubled times. Not to deny pain or celebrate it, but to look at it with honesty, address it with honor, then do something about it.”

I’ve been using this deck to work with my own shadow for about two years and feel honored to be facilitating a special dance of the Dark Goddess Tarot, with Ellen Lorenzi-Prince present, at the Gaian Soul Retreat with Joanna Powell Colbert in mid-September 2016.

ArcanaDance Workshop: The Dance of The Lovers, the Archetype of Love

The Lovers from the Wheel of Change Tarot
The Lovers from the Wheel of Change Tarot

“The Lovers represents the most developed expression of love, ‘love in the highest octave.’ It is the higher point of view or the higher state of consciousness that comes when your heart has been transformed by love.” – Jasmin Lee Cori and Willow Arlea, The Tarot of Transformation

On February 27 we explored a path to healing through the tarot card of The Lovers, the archetype of love. More than an archetype of romantic love, the Lovers is about how we grow through the mirror of relationship, with ourselves and with others. It’s also about the choices we make to follow the call of our heart’s desire. This archetype is a rich exploration of passion, partnership, choice and saying yes to the power of love.

The New Moon is a time to empty what was full and with great intention, plant seeds for the future. January 10th was the very first New Moon of 2016 and it was in the methodical, determined and driven sign of Capricorn. What greater time to plant seeds for the year ahead than during the first month of the year! During this workshop, we learned about the potential of setting an intention during the New Moon, worked with a custom tarot spread, selected cards and then we collectively danced our readings, sealing in our intentions with movement.
