ArcanaDance™ – The Dance of Knowledge: Exploring Embodied Beliefs & Values through Tarot & Movement

The Hierophant, Ananda Tarot Deck
The Hierophant, Ananda Tarot Deck

During this ArcanaDance™ workshop we will use tarot, movement, and music to explore ways to more consciously integrate knowledge and wisdom into our lives to better support the spiritual and life path we most desire.

In the tarot, the Hierophant (or Teacher) card represents the archetype of knowledge and wisdom. This workshop is focused on ways you can be a more conscious student or learner on a spiritual path.

The Hierophants asks us, “What do I believe and value? Where did they come from? Why did I adopt them? How do they inform my life? Are they relevant for the life I want to create?”

This archetype shows us ways we can interpret and embody teachings we’ve accumulated throughout our lives from sources ranging from family, spirituality, society, institutions, sacred texts and culture. We will question what we know, its relevance, and learn how to sift through and align the knowledge we’ve accumulated to support the kind of life we want to lead.

ArcanaDance™, created by Jennifer Lucero-Earle, is a therapeutic practice designed to facilitate self-discovery, empowerment, transformation & healing through a fusion of tarot, guided movement & music.

Arcana is defined as a secret. Dance is defined as movement to music. When fused together, ArcanaDance™ is defined as a secret that is revealed through movement.

No tarot or movement experience required! Wear comfortable clothes to move in, your bare feet, water and if you have a tarot deck you love – bring it. Tarot decks will be provided for us during the workshop.

ArcanaDance™ – The Dance of Intuition: Exploring Inner Knowing through Tarot & Movement

Priestess ArcanaDance CA“Once you awaken your intuition and get in the habit of listening to and acting on it, every decision in your life will become reflective of your inner truth. The trick is not to try to work out all the answers in your head. Rather, take whatever information you need into your body, trust your gut, then dance or meditate or walk or do whatever you need to enter a relaxed state of being and you’ll know what to do. You always have and you always will.” – Gabrielle Roth

Special Nia Class to the music of Hamilton

General Nia Hamilton JenniferTwo and a half years ago I created a Nia routine to the music of the Broadway hit, Hamilton. More than a tale of a founding father, the story of immigrants, big dreams, love and loss spoke to me. And, it is so profound for me, as a Puerto Rican-Argentinian, to see so many beautiful people of color at the forefront of producing and starring in this show.

The focus of this routine is Aikido, one of Nia’s 9 Movement forms.  Aikido reminds me of being on a journey in the wheel of life – adapting (sometimes gracefully, other times not) to life’s ups, downs, twists, turns, and our inner and outer searching for harmony. The one thing we can control in life is our inner state, our perspective and the ways in which we move through life.

In Nia, Aikido is what we call the “Dance of Harmonious Spherical Motion.” The movements reflected in a Nia class include turns, spirals, figure 8’s, swirling, blending, circles and lines, fluidity, yielding, moving from the center of our body, and most of all, noticing how our energy follows our attention.  Aikido invites us to drop in and notice our internal environment, to choose where to place our attention and then engage our entire body along for the ride.

With the Hamilton routine, we pay attention to the story of a coming of age, of falling in love, of vision and ambition, of a rise to power and then a fall, loss and the opening to forgiveness and grace. Our bodies will go for the harmonious spherical ride with the story. Each step of the way, we choose what we can control, with our attention and energy. I am so proud and excited to share this body of work with you!

Like a youngster readying to leave the nest beyond the familiar, the Fool is the guide that says, “my love, spread your wings, there’s a whole world out there waiting for your exploration.”

ArcanaDance™ – The Dance of the Dark Goddess: A Somatic Exploration of our Shadow

Dark Goddess Series Flyer Header Only (1)A special three-part ArcanaDance™ series:

  • Session 1: An introduction to the Dark Goddess and dancing with shadow energies (90 minutes)
  • Session 2: Dancing with our unique shadow (90 minutes)
  • Session 3: Dancing our shadow into the light and healing ritual (120 minutes)

Dancing with our shadow can be both transformative and healing. Carl Jung said that the stories and symbols mapped out in the tarot are the “descendants of the archetypes of transformation.” He also believed that the shadow is one of the most powerful archetypal forces. The shadow is often described as our “inner demons” and can be felt as the part of us that is so overwhelming in its darkness and heaviness that we don’t know how to deal with it. The tarot offers a safe and supportive map to work with our shadow.

During this three-part series, we will use the tarot to dance with our shadow and usher it into light, using the Dark Goddess Tarot deck, by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince.

The Dark Goddess Tarot is a beautiful and powerful deck follows the traditional structure of a tarot deck, and its archetypal journey, but replaces the images with those of powerful goddess and female figures from around that world. Ellen says that the “Dark Goddess Tarot is inspired by and intended for troubled times. Not to deny pain or celebrate it, but to look at it with honesty, address it with honor, then do something about it.”

I’ve been using this deck to work with my own shadow for about two years and feel honored to be facilitating a special dance of the Dark Goddess Tarot, with Ellen Lorenzi-Prince present, at the Gaian Soul Retreat with Joanna Powell Colbert in mid-September 2016.

ArcanaDance™ Workshop: The Dance of The Lovers, the Archetype of Love

The Lovers from the Wheel of Change Tarot
The Lovers from the Wheel of Change Tarot

“The Lovers represents the most developed expression of love, ‘love in the highest octave.’ It is the higher point of view or the higher state of consciousness that comes when your heart has been transformed by love.” – Jasmin Lee Cori and Willow Arlea, The Tarot of Transformation

On February 27 we explored a path to healing through the tarot card of The Lovers, the archetype of love. More than an archetype of romantic love, the Lovers is about how we grow through the mirror of relationship, with ourselves and with others. It’s also about the choices we make to follow the call of our heart’s desire. This archetype is a rich exploration of passion, partnership, choice and saying yes to the power of love.

The New Moon is a time to empty what was full and with great intention, plant seeds for the future. January 10th was the very first New Moon of 2016 and it was in the methodical, determined and driven sign of Capricorn. What greater time to plant seeds for the year ahead than during the first month of the year! During this workshop, we learned about the potential of setting an intention during the New Moon, worked with a custom tarot spread, selected cards and then we collectively danced our readings, sealing in our intentions with movement.

ArcanaDance™ – A Tarot Journey with the Hermit Card: Turning Inward to Honor the Wise One Within

The Hermit from the Tarot de St Croix
The Hermit from the Tarot de St Croix

In the tarot, the Hermit card is the archetype of the inner sage. When we explore this archetype, we tap into the well of wisdom deep inside of us. The beginning of the year is a wonderful time for the reflection, introspection and soulful inquiry that the Hermit invites. With this archetype we alchemize the wisdom of our life lessons into pearls of spiritual growth and personal development.

In this safe and sacred mini-retreat we journeyed inward to reveal our wisest self and cultivated practices to grow into our inner sage. We then went on a movement odyssey, collaboratively choreographing a dance that honors and celebrates the wise one within.

ArcanaDance™ – A Tarot Journey with the Star Card: Reclaiming Hope and Renewal

In the tarot, the Star card represents the symbolic archetype of the guiding light. Light is a source of hope, faith and divine guidance. When we explore this archetype, we have the ability to align ourselves to the north star within to guide our way in reclaiming a sense of inner peace and renewal, especially during or after times of challenge in our lives.

In this safe and sacred mini-retreat we cultivated practices to ignite and strengthen the light within to bring forth inner peace, renewal and healing. We then went on a movement odyssey, collaboratively choreographing a dance that honors and celebrates the guiding light within.

ArcanaDance™ – A Tarot Journey with the Empress Card: Mothering Ourselves into Wellness

In the tarot, the Empress card represents the archetype of the mother. The mother is the source of feminine strength, unconditional love, nurturance, nourishment, and creativity. When we explore this archetype, we access the ability to heal and become the vital source of our own self-care and nourishment of mind, body, heart and spirit.

In this safe and sacred ArcanaDance™ mini-retreat we explored the realms of sensuality, creativity, connection and nourishment inspired by the Empress. We then went on a movement odyssey, collaboratively choreographing a dance that honors and celebrates the divine mother within.

In the tarot, the Judgement card represents a passageway to expanded awareness, liberation from constriction and heeding the call to new beginnings.

In this safe and sacred ArcanaDance™ experience, we claimed renewal and rebirth through journeying with the Judgement tarot card.

We used a customized special tarot spread designed to facilitate the release of the old and seize the call for what wants to be birthed in our lives.
